Blood Wedding is an excellent and sucessful study in adaptation. I recommend reading Garcia Lorca’s play first and before you pop in the film think about what you expect to see. At the end you won’t wonder if the adaption worked but how it did. Antonio Gades is a master choreographer that can interpret human emotion and progress a narrative through bodily movement. Carlos Saura is masterful in framing and editing Gades’ flamenco choreography. Together they create a masterful adaptation like no other.
