Synopsis

Retired FBI profiler Terry McCaleb (Eastwood), who has recently had a heart transplant, is hired by Graciela Rivers (De Jesus), to investigate the death of her sister, Gloria, who happens to have given McCaleb his heart. On the case, he soon deducts that the killer, who staged the murder to look like a random robbery, may actually be a serial killer Terry was trailing for years in the FBI. Can the elderly and feeble McCaleb, who had intended to spend his retirement living on his boat in the Los Angeles harbor, and who can’t drive, and has to nap regularly, muster up the endurance to find the killer?

Clint Eastwood

Perhaps the icon of macho movie stars, and a living legend, Clint Eastwood has become a standard in international cinema. Born on May 31, 1930 in San Francisco, the son of a steel worker, Eastwood was a college dropout from Los Angeles College, attempting a business related degree. He found work in such B-films as Tarantula (1955), and Francis in the Navy (1955) until he got his first breakthrough with the long-running TV series “Rawhide” (1959). As Rowdy Yates, he made the show his own and became a household name around the country.

But Eastwood found even bigger and better things with Per un pugno di dollari (1964) (“A Fistful of Dollars”), and Per qualche dollaro in più (1965) (“For a Few Dollars More”). But it was the second sequel to “A Fistful of Dollars” where he found one of his trademark roles: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. (1966) (“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”). The movie was a big hit and he became an instant international star. Eastwood got some excellent roles… read more

"No one" is surprised or entertained by this, easily the worst script Eastwood (or any major American filmmaker) has ever directed. Obvious and completely pedestrian on every level, the only twist is that it was written (or at least sole credit) by Brian Helgeland. Jeff Daniels sure was having a good time picking up a paycheck though.

Eastwood's skills are visible through the nonsense, but this film is a failure. It begins with promise and quickly disintegrates into something implausible and ridiculous.

--may contain spoiler--, It was okay at first, then it became more and more predictable, and yes the reveal was highly ridiculous. It loss one star of my rating because the old man slept with Graciella, truly wrong move, bad idea, and really unnecessary.

One of Clint's worst films as a director. The story is unengaging and the reveal is laughable in nature.
