Uneven collection of shorts from four of Italy’s most legendary filmmakers. Mario Monicelli’s “Renzo and Lucianna” boasts some superb cinematography, though the story is slight. Fellini’s “The Temptation of Dr. Antonio” was a disappointment for me – Fellini is by far my favorite filmmaker out of the group, and his film definitely has the most inventive story, but it was painfully repetitive and every scene just dragged on. Visconti’s “The Job” is interesting – some excellent acting and wordplay, – if a little stuffy. And finally De Sica’s “The Raffle” is an amiable enough story that’s a bit longer than it needs to be. I have to say I thought I’d like the film as a whole a lot better than I did, though it was an interesting look at film in Italy in the 1960s.

“Drink More Milk!” For me this interminable compendium of four has one clear stand-out segment: Fellini’s Le tentazioni del Dottor Antonio.

Light and frothy it may be, but it’s a breathe of bawdy fresh air as Peppino de Flippo’s censorious doctor wages single-handed war on sexual liberation in Rome. That is until an enormous billboard of Anita Ekberg provocatively extolling the virtues of milk is erected opposite his flat and he finds Ms. Ekberg coming-to-life, albeit sixty foot high, in a low-cut dress and stopping at nothing to liberate the frigid do-gooder.

A delightful soufflé: bright colour photography, a jaunty score by Nino Rota and plenty of Fellini motifs crammed into 50 minutes to keep you happy.
