Untitled

Uneven collection of shorts from four of Italy’s most legendary filmmakers. Mario Monicelli’s “Renzo and Lucianna” boasts some superb cinematography, though the story is slight. Fellini’s “The Temptation of Dr. Antonio” was a disappointment for me – Fellini is by far my favorite filmmaker out of the group, and his film definitely has the most inventive story, but it was painfully repetitive and every scene just dragged on. Visconti’s “The Job” is interesting – some excellent acting and wordplay, – if a little stuffy. And finally De Sica’s “The Raffle” is an amiable enough story that’s a bit longer than it needs to be. I have to say I thought I’d like the film as a whole a lot better than I did, though it was an interesting look at film in Italy in the 1960s.
