unlikable cast of characters, a sanguine ending, and a great movie.
Knew nothing about it going in, came out having a new favourite. Aside from the amazing ensemble and those ultra-lengthy shots, it's a good story that's funny at all the right times.
This and "Magnolia" prove that PTA's the real deal; one of the great filmmakers of today. He is the kind of filmmaker that I dream I can be half as good as someday. He takes the heavy influence of Scorsese and Altman and gears that into making films as good as they can be. You can tell from looking at one shot in a PTA film where the influence comes from, yet the film is so much his own! He's an inspiration!
"i can fuck on my own time. i have other interests, i'm a magician."
On second viewing, doesnt it get better oh.
New favorite movie? New favorite movie.
"I'm going to ask you once more and I'm gonna ask you nice. Where the fuck is Ringo you bitch?!" Love this movie.
Just rewatched this. Still Mark Wahlberg's best role and performance in my opinion.
Look at that fucking cast.
Don't know why, but this reminds me of Goodfellas. I love these kinda films!
this movie is a rollercoaster of amazingness. sure, you could be like 'heather grahams tits!', but theres so much more than that.. i mean, dont get me wrong - great stuff. but the entire journey we follow mr diggler on is hilarious, depressing, and eye-opening. in the way that its eye-opening how big mark wahlber--oh. prosthetic. right, right. well, soundtracks awesome. and '.. can i see it? :looks down:'; hilarious.

Such a cool movie. Paul Thomas Anderson shits gold!
Lavish and indulgent look at pornography, drugs, music, and above all, quite frankly, the 1970s in general. Incredible performances by all, and what may be Paul Thomas Anderson's first display of masterful direction.
I rewatched it and a firm 8/10

Many have said that this is simply Goodfellas with porn stars, but it is better than GoodFellas. I can understand the complaints lodged against P.T.A., but I find his relentless exhuming of 70s film brat formalism refreshing. This is a far more human film than GoodFellas. The extraordinary power of William H. Macy's murder of his wife to ring in the 1980s has always been with me, one of 90s cinema greatest moments.
A GREAT movie about the success and the fall that follows.
"You don't know what I can do! You don't know what I can do, what I'm gonna do, or what I'm gonna be! I'm good! I have good things and you don't know about! I'm gonna be something! I am! And don't fucking tell me I'm not! "
such a good film. a great cast and performance by both wahlberg and moore! but i can't imagine a pornstar who looks like john c. reilly, i mean, gross.
I always wondered what it would be like if Martin Scorsese directed a movie about the porn industry.
talk about an ambitious directorial debut. i only saw boogie nights after seeing all of p.t. anderson's other films, and i was pleasantly surprised. what a wonderfully diverse filmmaker.
Dirk's long look... that was very impressive.
Hilarious movie. Amazing cast.
Great movie. Paul Thomas Anderson is an awesome director, one of the best post-modern filmmaker.
The best movie with julianne more! Love it!!
I'm a star, I'm a star, I'm a star. I am a big bright shining star.
A modern masterpiece.
My favourite movie - and that's not even because of the boobies. Every single music cue and triumphant camera move is absolutely spot on.
