Because he's fuckin innocent!
With this film I finish Wes Anderson's filmography. While it lacks the globs of quirk which make The Life Aquatic and The Darjeeling Limited the masterpieces that they are, it has the same lovingly detailed filmmaking which is on display in all of his films. There's a feeling of calm that comes over me when I watch a Wes Anderson movie; as if he has found the warm gooey center in a far too cynical medium.
this may be Anderson's first feature lenght. it also feels like the freshest one.
for a debut, this is really very good. he has his visual style almost completely nailed down. owen wilson and luke wilson are great here, and the jokes are intelligent and witty, just like wes anderson should always be. the emotional connection is there too, but i felt it did not have the quirky strokes that make his later films the masterpieces they are. i feel this reminds me of brothers bloom, too much to seperate
Second time watching, though the first with my mind in the room at the same time. I must have turned it on and gone elsewhere last time, as I remembered scarcely anything about Bottle Rocket. It feels a little dated and a little post-Reservoir Dogs. Anderson has yet to find his own voice, though Dignan and quirks in the direction show the path he was to take.
Came so close to loving it but in the end, I was slightly underwhelmed. However, I loved the romance plot with Inez.
Anderson has this knack for summing up his films in one killer line. This is no exception.
I know people like this. The film's like two teenagers arguing and has a well dressed/clean shaven Kevin Smith sensibility, if Smith were either of those things. It's a heist movie. It's an indie movie. It doesn't try to be either.
Warm, funny and further proof that Anderson is one of the few filmmakers around that can place pop music perfectly in his work.
Much better than his other films, and less of the irritating polaroid-tinged hipster douchery that his other films have too.
Can't believe it took me so long to finally see this. As with all Wes Anderson films I find myself alternating between boredom and bemusement. The latter is not necessarily a bad thing as it allows the film to percolate in a way that a drama or straight comedy never could. Plot and pacing are sacrificed in favor of character and visual creativity. This is as perfect a first film as I've seen.
An interesting buddy movie that you might want to watch while relaxing in front of. Immensely interesting characters, excellent atmosphere, good soundtrack and imaginative cinematography (comparable with Paul Thomas Anderson). The camera movement are frantic and novative. An interesting watch. My complaint is that the character of Mr. Henry dont tie well with the plot and that the second half of the movie dosent bring much. The characters seem to be pretty much unchanged after the events occuring in the story.
I absolutely fell in love with this movie. I came into thinking I would hate it but it turned out to be my second favorite Wes Anderson movie after Rushmore.
I don't even think it's possible to imagine an indie film community w/o Wes Anderson or the Wilsons, etc. right on down the line.. But I can remember the initial shock of seeing this on VHS, and let me just say that for me the jokes never get old, the guys are cute, and the pace of this movie is just stupendous
I am not a big Wes Anderson fan, but this one showed me what people see in him. It's a well made comedy with it's "andersonich" grip - lovely stupidity of the characters, lovely situation humor, lovely story.
