while it has a truly fantastic production design it seems to have forgot to put in a narrative structure. a little story could have made this a great film. but still candy for the eyes.
This film deserves my biggest admiration. It has many weak points, but there's one thing that makes me love it deeply... All effects you see were made on camera, most of them using techniques from the beginning of the century... There's a sequence shot with a hand cranked 35mm camera, or the double exposures (as the one with the rats walking in the ceiling) Old school filmmaking, great homage, loads of respect.
Visually stunning with a beautiful haunting atmosphere of classic horror. Francis Ford Coppola created a true vampire realm in this movie. This will TURNED OFF many of those horror enthusiasts who expects to see a film that thrives on shock value because instead this movie delivers more values of lust and love here. My only complaint would be for it is a bit too long and that Keanu was a little bit disappointing.
A true guilty pleasure. How could a film be technically "perfect" yet be burdened by such craptastic casting and script, these days I watch it with italian dubbing just to avoid the dodgy accents...
Oldman's talent squandered with inferior castmates for the nth time. You know that part of the prologue where a battle-weary Oldman comes in to find his bride laying dead and drops his equipment and Winona (dead as can be!) flinches and jerks when it hits the floor? Yeah, fuck this movie. ★★
A crazy, melodramatic, and overlong take on Dracula that miraculously still works.
Every once in a while, I go back to this film and just smile... It's those type of movie you don't know what the heck it has... and u just love.
this is a movie that was a bit cheesy when it first came out but over the years and compared to other dracula movies i think makes this dracula look like artwork compared to others. by cheesy keanu reeves in and out sad english accent. worth watching for Gary Oldmans and Anthony Hopkins performances alone and terrific musical score and costumes.
Well it is different from other dracula-esk movie I've seen...Its story is slightly different from the one's I've seen....
One of the most beautiful looking films i have ever seen. Immaculate Art-Direction
This film is underrated, provides a classical romantic and gothic flavor. Gary Oldman re-invents the character behind Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee and finds the best of both of their performances in his. If Hollywood weren't so vamped out at the moment this film might have more resonance.
