I kind of really loved this. My first Seijun. Some parts were ridiculous, yes, but hey--that's the point! And the play with visuals was amazing. Probably the worst bit was with the fake numbaa one toward the end, that got a little bit tedious . . . Anyway, I'm happy knowing I'm not the only one who loves the smell of boiling rice <33
It seems Seijun Suzuki's genius was too hot for Nikkatsu to handle and the fact that he got fired for making this, is understandable. Any studio production, wont be exactly gung-ho bout a film like this, filled with symbols, innovations and abstractions. Dark, unsettling and visceral, this movie caught me completely off-guard. I could almost feel the character's alienation. Its a triumph of the style here.
Unconventional is an understatement! What a cool film, I liked this better than Tokyo Drifter.
Ingenious, Tokyo drifter remains my favourite suzuki film but credit to Suzuki for taking a genre which was becoming very repetitive and doing something different and unconventional with it. Full of memorable scenes and characters though the plot is difficult to follow at times. Definitely one of the unmissable classics in the yakuza genre
Had its enjoyable, interesting parts, but as a big picture, I found it to be boring and annoying at times. I really did not like it very much.
this movie has some of the craziest editing ive ever seen. i was literally almost dizzy after some scenes.
I love actresses and actors being puzzled! It's kinda good for their creativity and self knowledge
This is a pretty good movie, but the plot is full of holes and there are really random moments that even looks like the actors are puzzled
Love this film from possibly my most favorite director. Sadly, wish the print quality was better on the DVD for this but still grateful to have it at all.
