finaly, someone! :D
What an adventure! Beautiful set pieces, funny music, and original characters (De Niro was awesome!) You can tell Tim Burton and others were influenced by this movie. Listen to Terry Gilliam's audio commentary. Very likeable personality and great insight. The Extras on the Criterion let us in on how Brazil was made. In the end it's all about the Artist vs The Studio execs. Great Cult film!
Like BLADE RUNNER, I found the ideas and the visuals a lot more compelling than the story. I watched the 140+ minute cut, and I have to say, i thought there was very little pay-off in it's ending.
If, as I tend to think, the hallmark of a great film is that it rebuilds the world from the ground up, Brazil is great indeed.
Introduced my dad to this gem tonight. His thoughts: "It didn't make sense, but I need to see it two more times." Grade: A+
Terry Gilliam can make all of the Brothers Grimms and Tidelands he wants and I will still love him forever for this film.
"Brazil" is Terry Giliam's finest film, among several extraordinary ones. No one can deny his skill in creating worlds, not just in imagining them but knowing how to re-create them on film. The world of "Brazil" is in turns dark, funny, surreal and all too realistic. And it's the rare instance where the auteur's vision triumphs over the Hollywood money-making machinery.
Blown away by this. I've never been that much of a Gilliam fan before (outside of Monty Python)
My all time favourite. Something of nearly everything, sci-fi, thriller, love story, social, very black humor. Perfect but requires watching it a couple of times due to many hidden gems.
I love this movie. Saw it at the movies and was shocked by the "second ending". Tough stuff. Thank you mr. gilliam for all your movies. I seem to love all of them.
@CROMARTIN: Speaking as someone who has the 3-disc edition, I say go for it. Disc 1: Gilliam's version of the film Disc 2: Special features including 2 making-of documentaries Disc 3: Universal's hour-and-a-half travesty
A perfect masterpiece. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise, they don't know what they are talking about.
