I don't know about that... hahah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4uv0eD5Ufg
It's as if I saw a melodrama first time in my life, I always wanted, but was never satisfied. And it worked at last with this over-stylized film that isn't a period piece and certainly is not a biography, but a "waking dream" of unleashed emotions, abstract and intense, interspersed with so many realistic small details about human behavior.
"the touched skin remembers..." a very nice, lovely & sad movie with a brillant acting & wonderful pictures..! the scene with the butterflys in the room was pretty funny, the first for sure...
I think it's official: Abbie Cornish is the best crier working in the movies.
A gorgeous, lyrical film, and one that stayed with me after it ended. It was one of those films, at least for me, that you don't know how much you enjoyed it until you realize that you are still playing it back in your head days later.
A lovely and underrated film. Abbie Cornish and Ben Whishaw gave excellent performances (I'm eager for more by Whishaw after this film and "Perfume"). Other than brilliant cinematography, the most compelling aspect of this film was its minimized soundtrack: poetry replaced music at many points to stunning effect. Whishaw's and Cornish's readings of Keats were "feasts for the ears."
Resurrected the poetry in films in a memorable and beautiful way, we forgot about how great art can be and films like these are becoming very, very rare. Campion's best since The Piano. Wonderful performances by Abbie Cornish, Ben Whisahw and Paul Schneider (except when he shouts "I failed John Keats, I failed" that was cheesy).
Beautiful. Jane Campion managed to turn a cheesy love story into a poignant, visually amazing cinematographic experience. The movie unfolds itself like a flower. It is perfectly cast and the use of light, textures, colors and sounds is impressive. While the love interactions between Fanny and Keats remain very chaste, it is one of the most sensual movie I have ever seen.
I watched Bright Star for the first time four days ago, and have since watched it another three times. It is such a beautiful film. It has stirred something deep inside me, and left me wanting more. Pure, honest, unadulterated love. Before Bright Star, I was not familiar with John Keats' work; now I have read "La belle dame sans merci" enough times to recite it from memory.
My first Campion film, a very mixed bag. Uneven acting (it's hard not to crack up at Abbie Cornish's despair, or Paul Schneider wailing "I failed John Keats"), but splashes of visual poetry help her case. The visuals (Brawne lying in bed with the wind billowing the curtains, the natural light photography, faces emerging from a field of flowers) are more poetic than the writing or acting.
I should watch this again on Christmas for no other reason than because I want to.
This movie is absolutely brilliant. Very well written, emotionally engaging and superb performances.
She missed it again in the last half of the movie. In my opinion, Jane Campionhasn't managed to make a great film from "An Angel at My Table". Too bad, she promised a lot back then.
I loved the first hour, then not so much until close to the end. Abbie's breakdown scene is incredible. Made me cry.
I just watched the DVD thinking it was not going to be a film I would ever think about again. It was just beautiful.
Absolutely great camera work but unfortunately thats all. Strange silly drama about failed love (why they couldn't be together i still don't know. Is he poor? so whatever you can be lovers at long last) One thanks to director - the main female role is NOT Keira Knightley.
A real love story from the life of poet John Keats. The plot, costumes, characters and cast was very good. Although, looking from todays perspective, most of the love games may seem unnecessary and boring, considering its own era and the pure love itself, all the parts of story makes sense..
