Actually 3 and a half stars. Quite well. What the hell! It was fantastic! It entertained me with such awesomeness I felt the freakin' four closed sides of the coffin. It's not the MAYOR THRILLER MOVIE at all, but, indeed, a good Saturday night recommendation for friends, couples and claustrophobic lads. Lighting, angles and psychological treatment! JUST GREAT!!! As Liam Peters said down here... brilliantly staged!
Brilliantly staged, wonderfully performed - Reynolds should've received awards attention for this turn - and unapologetically fast-paced, this claustrophobic's worst nightmare of a film starts and ends with a kick in the guts. It's a fantastic thriller that with other names attached would have been heralded far more than it was. One of the major surprises of its year of release.
This movie was better than I expected, I was a bit bored through some parts. As a one actor (on screen), one location movie it is pretty top tier. I drifted through out but I have to say I was really engrossed in the ending. They did a great job of building the tension of that moment up and I was finally engaged and cheering for the rescue. Ryan Reynolds shows he's got chops in this too.
Depending on your taste you had to think about Edgar Allan Poe's ahort stories or George Sluizer's The Vanishing (1988) while seeing Buried and if you're claustrophobic, the sole mention of the title for sure prevented you to see it. One actor, one location, that was a challenge and I must say that I was impressed by the director's skill. A very good surprise. Recommended.
A take on Edgar Allen Poe's The Premature Burial, and a really good one too.
WOW. I know this was Reynold's passion project, hell, it probably split up his marriage, and it kept me captivated the whole time. The most outstanding part was the filming, it was done so effortlessly and the camera never felt like it was cheating the coffin.
Extremely ballsy and totally watchable for a movie that takes place 100% inside a wooden coffin. A bit too convenient in places, but not overtly so. Reynolds delivers a serviceable performance that manages to carry us through the 94 minute runtime. The problems here are expected of a film like this, but it really works as well as it probably can. The best Ryan-Reynolds-trapped-in-a-box movie you'll ever see.
