A brother and sister live together in a relationship which is unhealthily close, and has overtones of incest. The unpleasant couple are involved in other deranged and disgusting activities as well, including feeding raw meat (possibly from live puppies) to their pet poodle.
Like Bilbao, CANICHE is disturbing, ugly, dirty, sordid, but also strangely beautiful. Is like poetry extracted from ugliness… It tells the story of two siblings, Bernardo (Àngel Jové, the lead from Bilbao) and Eloisa (Consol Tura), who live alone in a huge mansion and as result from an inheritance, begin to hate each other… Their little dog, a white poodle (‘caniche’ in spanish) becomes the unusual witness of this situation —myduckisdead.com

Bigas Luna

Juan José Bigas Luna (19 March 1946 – 6 April 2013) was a Spanish film director.

He began his professional career in the design world, creating the Estudio Gris with Carlos Riart in 1969. In his earlier exhibitions, at the beginning of the 1960s, he showed a great interest in conceptual art and the emerging visual technologies. Esteemed as an atypical director in the Spanish cinema, in 1986 he retired to Tarragona in order to devote his time to painting. In 1990 the producer Andrés Vicente Gómez persuaded him to return to cinema and entrusted to him the direction of Las edades de Lulú, a film which reached the general public. Without abandoning his dedication to painting and photography, reflected in numerous exhibitions, he began the well-known Trilogía Ibérica with Jamón Jamón (1992), Huevos de Oro (1993) and La teta y la luna (1994). Juan José Bigas Luna (19 March 1946 – 6 April 2013) was a Spanish film director.

Bigas Luna’s varied career as a filmmaker, painter and designer made him a very singular and interdisciplinary artist. An example of that is his project called “Microcosmos”, an evolution of the earlier Cares de l’Ànima which was exhibited in the Galería Metropolitana de Barcelona in 1990. It can now be found on a web site (see external links below), where the visitor can modify and select the works and become, in this way, the creator.

Bigas Luna directed and produced a large-scale multimedia installation for the Spain Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010, named Origins, as the first part of the Pavilion’s trilogy on exhibition. The installation fused live Flamenco dance, sculpture and videos on more than 20 projectors.

From 2008 to 2012, Bigas took on the art direction of the oldest musical café in Europe, El Plata, in Zaragoza (Spain). There, he created a cabaret show classified as “Cabaret Ibérico” based on parodies, eroticism, the old burlesque, etc., accompanied by the typical dishes from Spain, such as paella, ham or Spanish omelette.

He died of leukemia on 5 April 2013, while working on the film adaptation of Manuel de Pedrolo’s novel Mecanoscrit del segon origen. —Wikipedia

VENIMOS LOS JODIMOS Y NOS FUIMOS

Este film de Bigas Luna sobre la pareja conformada por los hermanos Bernardo y Eloísa, ambos de rancio abolengo, quienes han visto pasar sus mejores tiempos de prosperidad económica y que, acompañados por una perrita french poodle, se hallan a la espera del fallecimiento de su acaudalada tía Lina para poder cobrar su herencia, es seguramente uno de los mejores ejemplos de la primera etapa (por mucho, la más interesante) de la carrera del director. Filmada inmediatamente después de su notable Bilbao (1978), en este tercer film, además de la lograda atmósfera opresiva y decadente, Bigas Luna consiguió una severa critica a la burguesía española de los años 70, y así como en sus dos filmes anteriores, también en este es posible identificar buena parte de las obsesiones que caracterizarían la obra posterior de este cineasta y (otrora) enfant terrible del cine español, marcada por su gusto hacía el erotismo poco refinado, la transgresión en todas las formas posibles (algo que brilla por su ausencia en sus producciones recientes) y litros y litros de mala leche, lo qué, obviamente, no dejo de causar polémica debido a su cruda alegoría de la sociedad franquista, ni las opiniones encontradas al respecto. (De hecho, el film fue retirado del festival de Cannes de aquel año por presión del director del certamen.) Sin duda, se trata de un trabajo no apto para todos los gustos, pero que, no obstante, merece recomendarse, cuando menos, para disfrutar (por si todo lo demás fuese poco) de su corrosivo sentido del humor. La pura ficha técnica lo dice todo: entre los nombres que figuran en el reparto, se encuentra acreditado el de una tal Linda Pérez Gallardo. Linda Pérez Gallardo es el nombre (autentico) de la french poodle.
