Synopsis

Two years after his worldwide hit Closely Watched Trains, Jiří Menzel directed this amusing idyll about three middle-aged men whose mellow summer is interrupted by the arrival of a circus performer and his beautiful assistant. A meditation on aging and sex, shot in warm, sun-dappled color, Capricious Summer is one of the New Wave’s loveliest reveries. —The Criterion Collection

An absolute peach of a film. Reminds me of Renoir's A Day in the Country.

It was like watching a film directed by Ingmar Bergman, I mean if he'd had a great sense of humour. Recommended,

Not as endearing for me as Closely Watched Trains, but still enjoyable. The color film and lighting choices made the cast's makeup look pretty bad in many of the scenes, I will say.
