Yes, the censorship really stopped this film from being what it could have been. But on the other hand, Paul still put in an excellent performance.
a slow, boring travesty...it could have been great, instead it's just another mediocre pastel-colored melodrama. i fell asleep before it ended...it's so incredibly hollow compared to the play. even sweet bird of youth is a better williams adaptation than this
Definitely the sort of acting that you dream about seeing in a film. The plot is well paced, and the dialogue is sharp and quotable. Newman does an amazing job at portraying his character, and even though censors at the time removed homosexual subtext from the finished product, the feeling is still there in his delivery - I picked up on it right away. Good stuff.
Incredible performances and incredible writing. This is the type of films I love. I think it's incredible in many ways
I've read the original play was altered and rewritten, and in fact it ends incredibly optimistic to be a Tennessee Williams play. I'm not sure if it works, but at the moment it's enjoyable.
Simplesmente direto e soberbo todo o filme. A temática envolta em mistérios e suspense a serem desvendados vigorosamente em um momento onde tudo deve ser esclarecido...Tennessee Williams...
can you say brilliant? some of the best stories take place within the course of one day and this film is no exception.
This timeless and affecting gem is one of those many films that proves that ultimately it doesn't matter in any way, shape, or form whether a film garners an academy award or not.
Unforgettable performance by our wonderful diva, and brilliant cast! And her dress is gorgeous!
I know the screenplay was butchered and Tennessee Williams hated this version of Cat on a Hot Tin roof, but my unfamiliarity with it and Elizabeth Taylor oozing hotness got me over that really quick. The acting was great and the unfairly handsome Paul Newman and the magnificently cantankerous Burl Ives just made it out of the shadow of Taylor's figure. They don't make them like her anymore. RIP Liz...
