A lot of great acting in this high-gloss production
Really glad I finally saw this. I love Tennessee Williams and this most certainly did not disappoint. Amazing performances, writing, directing. Blew me away.
Granada Television, as part of its series 'Laurence Olivier Presents', did a better version.
The story and its mendacity make this film enticing, but the performances by Newman and Taylor make it brilliant and intense without feeling forced.
Loved the ending so much. <3
can you say brilliant? some of the best stories take place within the course of one day and this film is no exception.
So intense... loved it *-*
Amazing film! Loved the ending. <3
I do love the relationships in this movie.
This timeless and affecting gem is one of those many films that proves that ultimately it doesn't matter in any way, shape, or form whether a film garners an academy award or not.
Every minutes it goes, I get more intrigued into the film. Very great.
Newman and Taylor don't ever disappoint...another one for Tennessee :)
Unforgettable performance by our wonderful diva, and brilliant cast! And her dress is gorgeous!
I know the screenplay was butchered and Tennessee Williams hated this version of Cat on a Hot Tin roof, but my unfamiliarity with it and Elizabeth Taylor oozing hotness got me over that really quick. The acting was great and the unfairly handsome Paul Newman and the magnificently cantankerous Burl Ives just made it out of the shadow of Taylor's figure. They don't make them like her anymore. RIP Liz...
didn't you notice that obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?
recommended for any parents especially ones who don't give enough attention to their children. You have a chance to see what will be in the future if you keep do that... Movie was okay, but I can't stand some characters in this movie.
Judtih Anderson and Burl Ives got no Oscar nods for this? Shame at the Academy.
They left out some of the play's best parts, i.e. Brick's relationship to Skipper. A very puritan version of the original script.
It's like somebody put a camera in the theatre. It was a great experience for me.
A pity this didn't have a better director than Richard Brooks.
Still holds up pretty well. Feels kinda staged at points, but it does entertain.
would like to see James Earl Jones as Big Daddy in the play, very atmospheric, similar to "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?"
the conversation between Newman and Ives in the basement really moved me, such powerful acting by two great actors. this is one of my all time favorite scenes in a movie. It impacted me as a teen and still does as an adult.
