Johnny got his girl. Who said that quadruple amputees don't have any fun?

Opportunistic.

Tough drama about a faithful caring for her quadruple amputee husband in WWII era Japan makes its point a little too early. Under the surface of his heroism lies a dark secret, and his wife's struggle to care for him becomes an epic battle of will. It's a strong concept, but a repetitive and oppressive film. Well acted but lacking emotional cohesion.

I saw this film at the viena film festival. Like it has been said in the posts, wakamatsu makes his portrayal and critic of the japanese nationalist land-society very clear, but after a while of really strong images, some really admirable acting, you're still left empty. At least that was the way I felt.

A film that shouldn't have left Japan and has no reason to be on an International Film Festival. Completely directed at a Japanese audience, crude and graphic. More than 6 sex scenes with a man with no legs and arms will turn any audience away. We got the anti-war and anti nationalism message after half an hour, the following hour was just painful.
