Child Bride of Short Creek

Diane Lane, Helen Hunt and Christopher Atkins co-star in this drama set in the 1950s in a remote Arizona town, where a religious sect condones polygamy. The story follows a boy’s struggles as his father prepares to marry a 15-year-old girl. Originally made for television, the film is based on actual events in 1953, when officials descended on Short Creek, Ariz., and arrested a large group of Mormon fundamentalists for practicing polygamy.
