When she misses the last bus home after a daytrip to Paris, a young woman, Lola, finds herself stranded on the outskirts of the city. She meets up with a young man who persuades her to go with him to a night club, where she takes drugs and gets high. In her drugged state, she forms an attachment to another young man, Emir, a boxer of Arab descent. When Emir’s girlfriend, Saida, sees them together, she confronts Lola. Clubbed to Death has an almost shockingly vibrant cinematography and some credible portrayals of young people hooked on the drugs culture, notably by Elodie Bouchez and Roschdy Zem (both cult figures in French cinema). —filmsdefrance.com
For me, one of the best and most interesting films of - and capturing the club vibe so well - the 90's. A wonderful, dreamily ambient film, imbued with an amazing soundtrack and soaked in non-narrative, yet telling a compelling story. Wished Yolande Zauberman would make more films!
