My thought exactly!
Its style is a cross betwen a videogame intro and a wannabe "slick" fashion house commercial... feels like a 14 year old describing his experience on acid to his friends . I don't know at what Clooney is wose in this movie:acting (leaving aside the fact everyone feels miscast here) or directing.
To be honest, I didin't expect such direction from Clooney. I liked this film, it's not an important movie but a very enjoyable andd high quality one. Sam Rockwell proved he's a talented actor. The screenplay is great, dialogues too. I liked that Clooney has so much ideas to make it an interesting piece. 3 stars.
One of the most underrated/overlooked films of the 00's, this is the directorial debut of George Clooney. If midnight movies were anything more than an excuse to watch The Goonies or Rocky Horror for the gazillionth time "Confessions..." would be the new midnight movie. Or at a repertory house (if they still existed) on a double bill with "Network". Indeed, it seems to have sprung from the mind of Howard Beale.
I happen to know that George Clooney tore apart Kaufman's original script and change it dramatically. What resulted in a move that Kaufman himself described as trying to exude "Aren't I cute?" and an arrogance. Yes, I do blame Clooney, and wonder why in the hell he'd change Kaufman's script around. But what was left wasn't all that bad of a film, but a sporadic one that doesn't know what to think of itself.
Well, even if in general i am slightly disappointed, movie had some parts that were done very impressively and very fun to watch. But in general, everything from Kauffman's writings i saw so far, was much much better.
