Hilarious and highly inventive chase comedy as The Great Stone Face is pursued by seemingly the entire LA police force. I've always been more of a Harold Lloyd fan and - The General excepted - ignored Keaton. It's about time I investigated his work...
One of Buster Keaton's most famous comedies, COPS is essentially an extended chase sequence, with Keaton as a man trying to impress a woman by becoming a successful businessman, only to unwittingly find himself a fugitive on the run. Almost more of an action film than a comedy, COPS is nevertheless a fine example of Keaton's genius for constructing elaborate physical comedy routines.
A perfect short films, and one that showcases all of Keaton's strengths as a comedian. I don't know if I'd say this is his finest representation, but it's not far off. Cline was probably his greatest collaborating director.
Very funny short film. Buster can be chased by 500 cops and still outsmart them. Reminds me of the Beatles being chased by the cops in the movie "A Hard Day's Night." Brilliant!
One of the first Keaton works I ever saw back in high school, and a great example of how a silent film that is nearly a century old can still be surprisingly....very entertaining. Goes to show that our model for what makes a film enjoyable, still bears much resemblance to these films of old....
Keaton rawks! As this short illustrates, he was the last action hero. Everything else is just an imitation.
These movies are just undeniable fun. I defy anyone to watch this and not laugh and gasp.
i was hooked-- start to finish. the boxing glove knocking out the traffic cop was priceless.
While comedy seems to easily date, physical gags never age, especially when they are as risk-taking as Keaton's. I love it when he grabs the handle of the passing car and gets yanked away. I just saw THE SIMPSONS MOVIE and there was a reference to that joke in it.
