Louanne Johnson is an ex-marine, hired as a teacher in a high-school in a poor area of the city. She has recently separated from her husband. Her friend, also teacher in the school, got the temporary job for her. After a terrible reception from the students, she tries unconventional methods of teaching (using karate, Bob Dylan lyrics etc) to gain the trust of the students. –IMDb
Yeah, it wasn't all that brilliant. But I did enjoy it, the characters were fun and interesting . . Raul for example. A solid 3 star-er.

A pivotal film in cultivating my film tastes, in that it immediately identified a genre of film that I knew I despised - the uninspiring inspirational story where one person can change the lives of everyone around them (and learn something about themselves in the process!) - ala Mr. Holland, Dead Poets, Lean on Me. I think the only movie I've enjoyed (and how!) of this ilk is the great Hard Nelson.
