The most insane sequel that never happened? I think so.
Richard Linklater meanders through the last day of school - actually the afternoon and night - in a smallish Texas town in 1976. I was in high school in a small town in Idaho at that time; a little less violent, a little less diverse, definitely more beer focused than pot focused - those pretty minor differences aside, this is kind of creepy-accurate.
True story: Sam Fuller (yes, that Sam Fuller) wanted to make the sequel to Dazed and Confused.
He pitched it to Linklater as a feature-length extrapolation of the paddling scenes.
Brilliant in so many ways, the ensemble cast fits together absolutely perfectly
In the Criterion Collection? Really? At least he made up for it with nearly everything that followed. Sentimental and trite.
Won me over by the end. See Jovovich for an overture to her Divine Comedy album. Wicked.
Truly one of the greatest films ever made. Youth captured in the most honest gaze in American cinema. I grew up in Southern California in the 2000s, and I still relate to the feelings this film depicts. The promise of the night, the chase of the impossible, of nothing. Perhaps the most invisibly melancholy film ever made. It's so enjoyable, that it isn't until much later that you realize how sad it is.
Man, the ONLY high school film to accurately display the aimlessness of the entire experience. It's just about the opposite of nostalgia.
You can never really make something like this unless you've been there.
"Don't forget what you're celebrating, and that's the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes." Happy 4th of July, Mubi!
Ehhh...that's the sound I think of when I was watching this motion picture. I just didn't care. I was thinking because high school wasn't really like this and I think it would've worked better as a tv show(freaks and geeks). I was nonchalant and wondering when something interesting was going to happen. Only thing I enjoyed was the character of Wooderson, he played him with the right back of charm and ego.
Just watched this with my dad (who graduated high school in the mid '70s) and it was probably the best movie-viewing experience I've had with him in recent memory. Great film.
I guess it wouldn't be overly outlandish of me to declare this McConaughey's finest work.
This is the best flick ever because it is based on very real and true events. The director made alot of money off of peoples real lives. Met director in his hometown which happens to be my hometown, and he really didnt have anything good to say and was pretty snobby. Sorry Rick but you couldve been a little nicer. Dosnt take any credit away from your movie directin though. You got that talent for sure. Next time you come home, remember your fans a little more. Jason Jensen
É um novo Vidas Sem Rumo tamanha a quantidade de gente que surgiu nesse filme. E também pela quantidade de gente que surgiu e sumiu.
I remember a week before seeing this movie thinking "hardly any movies lately seem to be grabbing me at all." then I watched it and was filled with joy. awesome movie. awesome awesome awesome. Richard Linklater is the man.
Amazing movie. I watch it once a month and it never gets old. Best nostalgia movie I've ever seen.
