Definitely underrated. Susan Hayward is still in her red hot sexy phase here. She didn't become tough and pushy until the fifties. With her lush chestnut hair piled on top, you can better watch her provocative, hopping walk and listen to her deep voice speak Odets' odd, touching urban poetry. Great cast too.
Based on a novel by William Irish and written by Clifford Odets. Great dialogues, a superb performance by Susan Hayward, Marvin Miller as a blind piano player chainsmoking cigars, an atmosphere à la Fredric Brown. A little wonder deserving to be rediscovered. Highly recommended.
