Girl empowerment? Too bad the movie is about women. half of which have their asses and tits out the entire time. Sorry to be a troll!
Even when he conflates two hours to feeling like three, Tarantino almost circumvents his homage's flagging virtues with gob-smackin' vim. I said 'almost'.
I enjoyed this film right untill the big car chase, and my friend leaned over to me in the theater and whispered "hvorfor fanden stopper de ikke bare bilen, så hende den irriterende australier kan komme ned? (trans. Why the fuck don't they just stop the car, so the annoying aussie can get down?). I'm sure there are many reasons why they don't stop- there's only one reason why they keep going: Silly Tarantino...
I don't know. I don't get the criticisms. Can't say I'm all that fond of Stuntman Mike because I've never related to the whole emasculated male that hates women. I didn't find the dialogue too 'quirky' or 'attempting to be cool' because I actually hang around interesting women. And I don't think the women are 'sluts' because they talk about sex and relationships like some adult women would.
Remember being disappointed by the Tarantino half of "Grindhouse" but 4 years on watching the full length europeon theatrical cut I stand corrected. This film truly rocks and is a great homage to exploitation cinema. The self referential moments, the "girl empowerment", a rocking soundtrack and the wonderful Zoe Bell lead to one hell of a fun film. Sally Menke's editing top notch here.

A homage to a lot of 70s exploitation films with over-the-top actions. A major critique has been that it contains a lot of dialogue, but I feel that Tarantino himself is recognised as being a writer that emphasises the dialogue in his films. For me, the pointless dialogues is effective to help get to know each characters better as a "build-up". As result, each of the characters hv attitude that makes them interesting
The inane conversations are worth sitting through for two reasons - Kurt Russell's performance, and that car chase... it might be the greatest car chase of the last ten years. Doing it without CGI really does make a difference, and here, it's exhilarating. Tarantino should be immensely proud of that.
Nah, bro, those conversations aren't inane. They're musical, and they're really, really entertaining. The point of them–beyond conveying information and important character details–is that if you were in a bar or a restaurant eavesdropping on their conversations, you'd want to walk over and sit down with them and listen. Tarantino just likes to create characters he'd want to hang out with and listen to them talk. They give important information, but instead of editing out unnecessary banter, he leaves the good stuff in.
Usually, with Tarantino, that's the case - but most of the conversation in this movie can't be classed as entertaining. It's overwritten. I'm a huge fan of regular conversation making its way into movies, but nothing about the majority of dialogue in this film is clever or funny or interesting. You're right, he does create characters he'd want to hang out with, but that doesn't mean the audience feels the same way. Except Lee. I'll hang out with her any day of the week.
The worst Tarantino film ever made. I get the Russ Meyer references and everything but it's the only experiment that hasn't worked for him. I give him credit for attempting it though, it just wasn't any good.
As with all Tarantino movies it's great entertainment and fun to watch. There's some repetition with the second half but that was inevitable with the structure of the film. Tarantino seems to be one of the most hated of all directors and I don't think I'll ever fully understand why.
Unique. definately not his best work, but then thats not really what the mans about. FUN in film making weither we enjoy it is second me thinks.
Pés. Lap dance. Referências mil. Granulação. Saltos e repetição de quadros. Imagem subitamente perdendo a cor. Girl talk em plano-sequência. Rever "À Prova de Morte" é o que há. É um Tarantino menor, mas, novamente, genial no formato e execução, a serviço de uma proposta divertidíssima.
