In Dersu Uzala, Akira Kursosawa adroitly portrays two men whose friendship brings gravity to one’s existence. The seasons and surroundings of Siberia slowly draw the viewer into this unique area of the world. This landscape constantly changes and determines whether these two are able or unable to co-exist. A movie worthy of a viewing for it’s beauty of movement, words and silence. Akira deserves praise for this accomplishment.
