As a colorful and sexy film, "Diavolo in corpo" is definitely nice to look at. But it's far from convincing when it comes to creating an intriguing universe; Bellocchio sets up the plot in an exciting way, but consequentally fails to merge sex and politics to make the film and its characters become interesting objects. It's never a must-see as "I pugni in tasca", though the visual qualities still makes it seeworthy.
This isn't a bunch of crap, it's equal to Bellocchio's first grand films and Detmers' role is more tragic than one imagines. Some individuals are just either too picky or can't accept a fine psycho-erotic film when it's done right!!!
