As opposed to the malevolent, unintentionally distructive Lulu of Pandora’s Box, Thymian of Diary of a Lost Girl is innocent and faun like, showcasing a range of skill from Louise Brooks. Her and Pabst were made for each other and it really is a shame they made only these two films together. An amazing and lurid story full of undertones and symbolism, Brooks’ performance, masterful camerawork, and the use of objects like important characters makes this one of my favorite underrated silent films.
