a telling portrait of a man who thought himself an artist, a poet. Nykvist looks intolerant of Tarkovsky, though that could well be due to the rigor of filming with him.

Tarkovsky indulges himself, and we let him because no one creates atmosphere like he does. Nykvist looks bored out of his mind. Larisa thinks Tarkovsky is all that Tarkovsky thinks he is.
