Yet another '70s masterpiece, with excellent pacing and dialogue. "Attica! Attica!"
I'm not sure I quite get the hype. Apparently this is how it actually transpired, which really makes me question real life Sonny's judgment. Asking for pizzas? Chilling outside for extended periods of time? This is a weird movie, and for me Pacino was the only actors who stood out. Not a bad film though—just different, perhaps?
15 minutes in and I’m ready to give it full 5 stars. Al Pacino is amazing in this film.
Revi esses dias e... ainda é atual. Lumet é o rei da tensão, insuperável na arte de prender quem o assiste em situações embaraçosas e absurdas. E o Pacino... é um sonho. Remember ATTICA...
This is just one of those films I can watch over and over again with increasing appreciation. Only now do I fully understand how masterfully Dede Allen cut this together, not to mention this is my favorite Pacino performance. What I love most about this film is its simplicity (similarly to Lumet's directorial debut "12 Angry Men") -- nothing over the top, just beautiful acting and a human story.
Sonny: Is there any special country you wanna go to? Sal: Wyoming. Sonny: Sal, Wyoming's not a country.
fantastic! a dark comedy and a moving drama at the same time. though of course it's based off of a real story, the documentary style, rawness, and subtlety of the film makes it feels even more real. and the acting was superb, especially of course, Al Pacino's role as Sonny. what makes his character so great is how as mentioned below, he is so relatable for though troubled, he ultimately had good intentions.
a really great film based on a true story. Al Pacino does a terrific job of portraying the man who robbed a bank for his gay lover. I feel like this has something to do with the fame/publicity that comes with committing a crime; especially one that most of the city can watch from the streets. Sonny's relationships with his wife and Leon are very relatable, and somewhat lonely too.
the level of humanity in this film is just amazing. Al's best. not one bad note in the film.
Intense. Extraordinay. Well written. Well Done! Al Pacino gives a remarkable role in a remarkable film that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where it would all lead to! An instant classic!
One of the best chilling heist film that I've ever seen.love the tension and humour.
"Attica Attica" My favorite scene from this great film.A true story that is moving,at times funny, giving Al Pacino perhaps his best role. The outstanding supporting performances and Frank Pierson's Oscar winning screenplay helped make this one of the best of the 70's. Three decades later "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead" showed Sidney Lumet was still a genius.
One of the best crime movies I've ever seen, not sure if you could call it a comedy, but some of the movie's comedic timing was brilliant. Definitely one of Al Pacino's best roles.
Very nice, darklyfunny and really hard to imagen that it actualy happend :) one of the best telephone dialogs in the movie with his both wifes. Also one of pacinos best works for me.
Usually the fact that some films are based on true stories isn't something that draws my attention, but I cannot believe that this black comedy with good slices of drama and suspense has really happened. The interpretations are superb.
One of the greatest of Lumet's golden era. Extraordinarily funny and moving. John Cazale! Please come back!
