Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood is a parody of a lot of Afro-American movies, for instance Boyz N the Hood, South Central, Menace II Society, Higher Learning and Juice. We follow Ashtray as he returns to the place he grew up in and meet his father and his basket-case friends. A lot of crazy stuff happens, for example, Ashtray is older than his father and his best friend Loc Dog’s grandmother is a trigger-happy old lady who blames her eccentric-looking kid for not being tough enough. —IMDb
If the top tier of the film parody genre is "Airplane!" and the films of Mel Brooks, and the bottom rung is almost every parody film of the past decade, "Don't Be a Menace" is right in the middle. When it's working, it's quite clever and produces some memorable lines. But, a lot of the time, it's comedic pace is very off and the jokes are too predictable.
Fairly solid film surprisingly from the lesser known of the Wayans siblings (Marlon and Shawn) Runs a little dry towards the end with the jokes and sight gags but funny (gut bustingly funny at times) for a good 75% of the film. Would watch again.
I hate Whoopi Goldberg's LIPS, I hate the back of Forest Whitaker's neck... AHHH!
