Favourite scene: "How's your delightful sister? -I'm fine Howard..."

There is something quite brilliant about Ralph Bates performance in Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde. Its always been a Hammer film I keep coming back to, time & time again. There's a subtlety to his performance that is almost endearing. It remains my favourite Bates Hammer film. While I hate using the word "hammy" this word could sum up some of his other performances for the studio, especially in Hammer's Lust For A Vampire

A gender-bending mix of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Jack the Ripper, Frankenstein, The Body Snatcher, and Dorian Gray! Could have been campier for my taste, but quite good nonetheless.

This is one thing I love about Hammer films: they took risks, like this gender-bending take on "Dr. Jekyll" that just pushes all the right, kinky buttons for 1971. Highly recommended for fans of sensual horror.
