I am happy to say this is one of my all time favorites, and one of a handful of jewels in universal studios golden age of monster films. To me this stagy, corny, mostly silent early horror work is inexaustable for reasons that go against what I like in films. The direction is amazing, creating a unique atmosphere in its genre, the performance from Lugosi, who never topped this milestone of meanace and sex appeal, is magnetic, and the photography is so beautiful and particular to this film, I just can’t seem to stop watching it after years of admiration. The only film I have yet to see restored better on DVD than the same VHS copy I have been carrying around for years, I BEG someone at universal to give Dracula superlative treatment on DVD. As much as I love Phillip Glass I could live without his score for this film, which I find a bit intrusive.
