Such a memorable film, I'm not sure whether it has left an impression or a scar on my mind.

"Godard has only one ball, I have three." That was in the first five minutes of directors commentary on the Blu-ray. WHO cares about what kind of shot or jib this or scrim that. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!? Jodorowsky spills the secrets of life in the best and possibly only commentary I have chosen to spend time with.

Ultra violent western meets a surreal episode of The Monkees. I loved it.

A gunslinger dressed in black gets killed while pursuing perfection of his craft, and then by unknown powers is resurrected as a white-bearded messiah to an underground community of cripples. Political & religious awakening become one, my attention dwindles, the storytelling fails to keep pace w/ its revolutionary, mischievous content -- it's a mess that counts on repelling squares and being seen twice by freaks.

While you may not be impressed with Jodorowsky's craftsmanship, his bizarre creative vision is what elevates El Topo as a unique experience. Also, he had the balls to make these kind of movies in the effin' 70's. My second favorite movie from him after Santa Sangre.

Jodorowsky may be a genius by deliberately producing something so nonsensical that he knew an acid-fueled community would go bananas and worship. It's a "Lone Wolf and Cub" sort of cheap-stoic tale drawn from the likes of Leone, mixing Biblical clichés, Western/Eastern social and moral codes, and the devil knows what else. Surreal? Sure... if we're talking about the general ovation. Massive delirium feat - a miracle.

I´ve always thought Stephen King ripped off El Topo for his Dark Tower series...specially the first novel. Later the series veered off in a totally different direction but The "mystic western" motif for the Gunslinger was totally lifted from Jodorowsky´s magickal masterpiece. Check out my remix of this movie: http://vimeo.com/12709708

This film is insane. A twisted nightmare best describes it. this movie is serious entertainment, with an artistic freedom that no western has ever dared to duplicate. hahah Potent!!!

God, what the hell did I just watch? I feel like being stoned must be a prerequisite for watching this film, as I assume most viewers who saw this in the seventies must have been. I can't describe anything that occurs in El Topo. Just watch it. There's plenty of eye candy too, the cinematography is amazing.

The film suffers from the childishly obvious mysticism of its latter portion. But with the gunslinger quest it is at least half-astounding.

I Finally watched it. What a mindfuck. Delirous, unsetling, suffocating, gory and genius! Every frame is like an arid painting.Though I might say that the second part of the movie is not as strong as the first. Not for the faint of heart, of course, or to PETA fans. Grande Jodo.

El Topo is two movies. The first one is 5 stars. The second one is 2. I loved it but it broke my heart by going completely off the rails and becoming really pedestrian. Or at least that's how I saw it.

Esta fue la película que vimos en la primera cita con mi ex novio, tambien estudiante de cine... Increíble! Bastante dificil de clasificar, unica en su especie de western-surrealismo, una peli fascinante!
