For a young baker by the name of Orso, the music of singer Joe Bleezard is one of life’s necessities. Orso is addicted to this rock idol and upon hearing the shocking news that Bleezard is dead, his life loses meaning and he tries to kill himself. He downs some pills and awaits eternal deliverance. He has no idea that his neighbor Samantha, who besottedly observes his every movement, has been watching him for some time through a chink in the wall. Samantha calls an ambulance, thereby foiling Orso’s attempt to exit the world. The young man protests his neighbor’s meddling, but she merely responds with a perverse proposal. She’ll lend a helping hand next time, whether he chooses life or death. The movie poetically follows the everyday life of an unfortunate young man. The dramatic events that take place over several days, however, are softened by humor and a gentle and sensitive atmosphere. The film is rounded out with the driving punk music that haggard Orso is so crazy about, come life or death. —KVIFF
