a real joy to watch. it is such a simple premise, and not shy on length, but it moves so swiftly and and it a really enjoyable experience.
Ozu's first movie in colour is a delight. Excellent grumpy performance from Shin Saburi and Mizoguchi regular Kinuyo Tanaka is superb also in another one of Ozu's deceptively simple family stories. Here his sympathies lie with the younger generation as a daughter fights for the right to choose her own marriage partner...
There was a surge of happiness in my heart by the time the movie ended. It is the same feeling that Ozu makes me crave for in each and every film of his and I am happy that I am full of it. Thank you very much for this treat!
emank susah ye ambil keputusan objektif kalo udah menyangkut anak kita sendiri, terutama cewek..
suatu hari gw juga akan melepaskan anak perempuan gw. sedih rasanya, maunya sih seperi noriko di late spring haha.
The first Ozu I ever saw. The colors are so radiant, so full of life and the love for it!
The feng shui force is strong in this film. I liked the arrangements in Equinox Flower better than some of his other films. I thought Shin Saburi gave a very fine performance. Still, the film is too long and it would have been better if there was a way to shut off the soap opera music in the background. Nice, terse ending.
I hardly see this film as "any time any where." Yes, I think you might need to elaborate Mr. Jahnke. I felt far removed from the particular generation gap this film speaks too. I saw it as documentation of post-war Japan's emerging upper-middle class society, and a generations' desire for independence from their parents conservative ideals. A beautifully shot film. Did Ozu ever work in other aspect ratios?
