The largest disappointment of my year so far. Poor script, poor directing... The actors are fine, but everything else is either ugly or unfortunately flawed. A surprisingly overrated film.
I just watched it for the fourth time, it's still just as incredible, if not more than it was when I first saw it.
Can't believe like many other peole here, that i missed watching it all this while it was their with me... Will difenetly have to watch it many times again.. super underrated ... The movie just sucks you in it's layers of dreams and images without boring you for a second...
It presents the idea that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all in such an original and emotional way that the theme can escape you on first viewing.
Every time I watch this movie I still think it is one of the best of the 00's and definitely Gondry's best. Wonderful lines and really nice aesthetics. It is the type of movie you can watch that points both to the melancholic way, but also to the happy one: you chose which way you wanna go each time.
This has been my favorite movie since maybe 2006, I still think it has everything I could ask from a movie. Blue and tangerine colored hair, FOR EXAMPLE.
there's too much i want to say and 420 words is too little. this is one of the most perfect movies i've ever seen in my life. EVER. i feel like the soul of my imagination was actualized by this film. oh my god, i can barely breathe right now after having just watched this movie.
feels for some reason like Kaufman's most uneven, scattered film (though I suspect this is due to Gondry's uneven and ostentatious directing), and yet it is also my favourite of his - (despite Synecdoche, New York, which is his masterpiece) - just a completely beautiful film, so affirming and addictive. The shift into the final movement, back to reality, is beyond brilliant.
one of the greatest films ever made. quite maybe the best script of the modern era, the pain, the love, the joy, the everything. few films make the viewer care so much about the main players. jim carrey and kate winslet are superlative in two out of type roles. winslet in particular is outstanding, as she is able to crawl inside the character. kirsten dunst is also fantastic yet again. utter classic.
A very innovative, thought provoking movie. It can mean different things to different people but I took it this way; no matter how bad things seem at the end, there are still beautiful memories that can, and maybe should, be cherished. They will never be a successful couple, but they can have great moments together.
La Una lacuna. The most poignant horror story I've ever seen -- which isn't quite fair to this beautiful, singular film. For those of us who have realized -- or faintly intuit that, eventually, we will realize -- that there is a central, essential relationship in our lives, which will nevertheless persistently fail to be everything we require of it, Eternal Sunshine reminds us: whatever you do, don't forget.
Two conflicting opinions from individuals that I follow here at MUBI. Seleana loves it like I love her; Dennis has no time for it at all. I'm the latter. I was very disappointed by this film. It's a good idea with much of Gondry's trademark visual trickery. Alas, the film runs out of steam and overuses its central gimmick so as to become contrived and messy. Also, I found Kate Winslet's character to be horrid.
A brilliant work of twisted refreshing originality framed by intelligent script and expert direction with passions. As odd and confusing it may seem, this movie manage to express the absurdity of thoughts and feelings in examining a relationship, which many of us can relate to. You know you have a good movie on your hands when the next day you're still thinking about parts of it, and you want to see those parts again
