La planète sauvage combines wonderful, imaginative artwork with a surreal 70s soundtrack. It's also a thoughtful science-fiction film containing allegorical elements about oppression, the power of knowledge, superstition and intercultural exchange. Really very unique and bizarre - I love it, too!
A unique animated work that effectively creatures a believable alien world. The simplistic plot may be heavy on allegory, and the ending is pretty abrupt - but the images are so original and intriguing, the bizarre atmosphere is enough to make it a very special work of art.
Saw this movie with friends at a cinemateque, their reactions were "WTF was that?". I mean the story isn't anything groundbreaking, but the animation/imagery by Topor in harmony with the psychedlic 70s soundtrack make this a must watch. I mean yeah we were high of course...but I rewatched it on DVD SOBER (because I had no weed) and I still enjoyed the visuals. An entertaining movie take your kids to watch it now!
Would you believe that i found out this movie while watching THIS other one in tv? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8X6NUtUkBA
its kinda hipsterish these days to be into this film, but there is no denying that this is a masterpiece.
Big Pun sampled the score - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fra_YSkK2dg (Madlib and Dilla did too come to think of it.)
Ever listen to the band Om? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kwrFPuPf6w&feature=related
one of my first steps into the fascination of cinema, i was an 8 years kid but still remember the huge impression of this movie left me: the story, the visuals, the music, everything became a seed that now is a kind of obssesion, for good, i hope, ha
A strange sci-fi animation about the futuristic 'Draags' that keeps humans 'Oms' as pets on some planet far away. A cat and mouse play between the giant race and the suppressed humans. The surreal images of Roland Topor, the bizarre storyline by Laloux, the weird soundtrack of Alain Goraguer... what a perfect film.
