Director

Original

Michael Curtiz

Michael Curtiz was one of Hollywood’s most prolific and colorful directors. Born to a well-to-do Jewish family in Budapest, he ran away from home at age 17 to join a circus, then trained for an acting career at the Royal Academy for Theater and Art. I'll agree that the ending really doesn't fit, but the 3/4 of the way up to that point were a great pre-code film. Even with the tacked on ending, still a very good film. Chatterton is outstanding. Recommended.

Yeah, I was so jazzed for the first half - I thought it was going to be a feminist movie. But I'm only a woman; what do I know?
