What I appreciate the most at Herzog is the way he uses camera, it makes situations even more realistic than they are! I especially like his choice of locations, brilliant!

Either this or Aguirre are my favorite Herzog...either way, this remains a great film, one of the best of the 80s.

Definitely Herzog's most accessible and polished works, Kinski is at his usual best and anyone who has seen the comparison shots of him versus Mick Jagger and whoever else knows. A fantastic tale of the quest for the beautiful and the madness of man.

Anybody interested in this film should read "Conquest of the Useless." Really astounding prose by Herzog, from the jungle during this gruelling production.

Uncompromising and just astounding. Yes, yes, its sometimes meanders and shots linger a lot longer than they should but who gives a fuck, this film is cinema at its bravest.

this one is hard to classify, as herzog's films usually are, but it's an undoubtedly amazing feat> it's center piece with the boat on the jungle is in my opinion an unparalleled filmic event, that alone is more than enough reason to watch it> this has had me fascinated since i saw it as a child.

Where Aguirre is the more succinct, hard hitting and malevolent, Fitzcarraldo is "the other side of the coin", to borrow that phrase so often assigned to Herzog/Kinski and is a much slower, more drawn out but ultimately uplifting experience. Unquestionably a 5 star epic.

to really appreciate this film even more than what it already is on screen, you should know the background of how it was made. herzog is one of those relentless filmmakers that ride the line between genius and madness and this film is no exception.

Another crazy, dreamlike adventure by Herzog. A big experience and another wonderful Kinski performance but I prefer Aguirre over this one here.

The first Herzog I've really loved. Yes, he lingers more than would be allowed if it were a major studio film, but the story is just fabulous, and speaks volumes on the nature of the world vs dreams, business vs art relation.

Another tale of men with impossible dreams in nature, Herzog's favorite theme, and of course making of the film was something impossible made possible too. By watching this I've realized how great Herzog really is, and I think he's one of my favorite film makers now. This is a masterpiece.

Well, I guess that won't be happening. According to IMDB: Director Werner Herzog destroyed all the footage of Jason Robards and Mick Jagger (Herzog has said that he never keeps the outtakes and unused footage of all of his films).

Saw the very interesting documentary on the making of this film, Burden Of Dreams. I was really surprised by the original footage shot before Klaus Kinsey was cast, the tone of which seemed quite different. I would be very interested to see the rest of it. I certainly understand some of the negative criticisms of Fitzcarraldo, but none of the negative aspects described got in the way of my enjoying the film.

Holly hell! Klaus Kinski is obsessed and so am I. For some reason I love obsession in movies. It's one of those driving forces that I can believe and really get behind.
