Synopsis

Set up as a series of very thin sketches or episodes, this several slices-of-life drama is wrapped around the theme of romance. Among the segments and their topics is one of a young woman falling in love for the first time, another concerns a well-married couple who have devised a clever way to keep the romantic side of marriage from deflating. The husband goes through a “courtship” of his wife each year, reminding them of the days before they tied the knot. Setting off some of these scenes is an accident in a work place that brings two workers together. —fandango.com/petzmilionu_v229377/plotsummary

Zbyněk Brynych

Czech director Zbynek Brynych specialized in films dealing with life under fascist rule and how people relate to each other and their environment. A former musician, Brynych began his film career in the mid-’40s as a production manager. In 1949, he joined the Barrandov Film Studio and worked as an assistant director. Between 1951 and 1953, Brynych worked with the Czechoslovak Army Film Unit. He became a second unit director in 1955, and three years later released his directorial debut, Zizkovska Romance/A Local Romance.
