Agreed
Hou Hsiao-Hsien's masterful 'slice of life' approach is delicate, precise & beautiful, but this film seems to hit a few too many flat notes overall. Look forward to discovering more of his work though...
Because cinema can be deep and sad and beautiful and chaotic.. and... just like life.
Pleasantly surprised by this. Pleasant, nostalgic and Beautiful. Hou Hsiao-hsien is very close to being one of my favourite directors.
this film was a revelation to me with his use of the rack focus as a the main camera narrative device, which plays beautifully on the big screen, and looks insubstantial on a television screen. HHH's films like Jarmusch's films can only be fully appreciated when projected on the big screen.
That silly song at the end really damaged my rating for this otherwise wonderful film.
Looong Takes. Which I love. Beautifully shot and touching if a bit too spare for my taste.
I'm surprised to hear Juliette Binoche actually agreed to work with HHH before the production. You can see HHH's relationship with the Taiwanese puppet theatre. And casted the master of puppet theatre in many of his previous film. Go check it out, it's worth your time.
Olvidable film, con la peor actuación conocida de JULIETTE BINOCHE. Lapidario que le hayan colocado éste titulo a un film que nada tiene que hacer al lado de EL GLOBO ROJO. 3/10
