two star for tarantino, zero for rodriguez, zero for rockwell, and another zero for anders. not worth your time.
Call me crazy, but this is a real gem. The tone and atmosphere are spot on, and the slapstick/gag comedy is excellent (especially with the references, like to 1960's "The Bellboy"). As the night progresses, the feeling of New Year is there, all the time. I guess I'm alone here, but I really connect with this one. The downside is the first room, but this just allows it to get better and better. Totally underrated.
Wow, what a freaking waste. And what the fuck was Tim Roth doing in this movie? I usually like him as an actor, but here he was overacting to an annoying degree and being super inconsistent. For the first twenty minutes I wasn't sure if his character was supposed to be mentally retarded or no; then he continued to vascillate between extremely effeminate and flustered, etc. I just don't even know.. This was terrible.
It is a little gem in the way Tarantino & Rodriguez! Lots of great actors and foolish stories. It lifts spirits and makes me laugh every time. Do you think the man at the end will get his finger on his hand?
tim roth is officially my favorite actor now. WHO THE FUCK CARES WHETHER IT WAS A .44 OR A .392? IT WAS A BIG FUCKING GUN
i just like the rodriguez and tarantino segment, the other blah.. my fav tim roth performance..
The first two rooms were utter shit. Especially the first. Rodriguez's was great, and, to agree with Zachary, perfectly timed in it's slapstick. Tarantino's was pretty good. I did like the end of it, and the cheeky homage to Rope (or that's how I saw it) as they talked about Hitchcock. And the part in between with a stoned Marisa Tomei was pretty funny.
Lo unico medianamente salvable de esta pendejada, es, para variar, el segmento de Tarantino. El climax es de antologia...
Rodriguez's room is awesome, just absolutely hilarious, perfectly-timed slapstick comedy. Love it. Savvy
Loved the Pink Panther-esque opening. Roth's performance was solid and consistent. The 1st room was random and very unusual, but kept my attention. The 2nd was a massive improvement, with fantastic chemistry - and the fact that it was set in one room worked. The 3rd was equally good, where Banderas really delivered. The 4th was classic Quentin. This is more a personal film to me; I watch it every New Year's Eve. 4/5.
It started off really good, got a little lame in the middle, then awesome in the end. One of the lesser-known Tarantino films that any fan might want to check out. Tim Roth is the man.
Great film! I love the segments and interconnections. Great cast, great stories, great fun. Love Bruce Willis in the final chapter!
So much talent wasted. Allison Anders's and Alexandre Rockwell's segments aren't worth a comment. Robert Rodriguez's is worth watching just on account of ONE gag (I won't tell you which one, why should I be the only one to have to endure this garbage ?). Regarding Quentin Tarantino's, I managed to watch it until the end only because I... In fact, I don't know why. A DVD zone completists only.
Tim Roth/Ted the Bellhop: *spontaneously vomiting profusely* WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!?!? = best part of the entire film. I give it 2 Stars for the Rodriguez directed segment. That's it though.
Robert Rodriguez's section of this film is by far the best and funniest story in this film.
