Who cares if it wasn’t that original or subtle, it wasn’t supposed to be. It’s so well made and fun that you can’t escape the great characters and relentless violence. You just don’t see buddy cop movies this well done anymore, this was about as good as they come. It takes the whole scenario and applies it to a foreign setting, it works considerably well. John Travolta blew me away, he hasn’t been this good in a long time. His loony bin portrayal is just flawless, making you laugh and stand back in awe of his killing techniques. Johnathan Rhys Meyers did a good job as the straight man, mostly caught off guard by John Travolta’s crazy politically incorrect and downright racist lines. The directing is great, Pierre Morel has grown so much since Taken. The action sequences are extremely well done and not overly flashing. Any true fan of the genre can appreciate this for giving you could ask for.
