Synopsis

What began six years ago in Berlin has become a worldwide phenomenon. Gay filmmakers make movies about lesbians and lesbian directors make films about gay men. For Fucking Different XXX, eight prominent international filmmakers got together to present the “other” sex and their erotic adventures. Each director brings their own personal touch to diverse locations around the world: in New York, Berlin, Paris and San Francisco, developed their works. In Paris, Todd Verow (Little Shots of Happiness) follows Judy Minx as she goes cruising, Maria Beatty (Post Apocalyptic Cowgirls) directs her own version of Cain and Abel in a New York gay bar, Kristian Peterson films a hot quickie in the toilet at an underground Berlin club, Manuela Kay (Airport) shows how rough sex can be very romantic in free nature, and Jürgen Brüning brings us a playful afternoon full of tennis balls and exotic fruits. The resulting films reject erotic clichés and instead allow us to look at sex and sexuality in ways we have never done before, with a fresh and humorous approach.

Todd Verow

Born on November 11, 1966 in the town of Bangor, Maine, he studied film at the American Film Institute and the Rhode Island School of Design and directing at Brown University.

After a string of widely screened and praised short films he shot his first feature film, Frisk (Sundance, Berlin, Toronto ’96) a hyper-controversial adaptation of the novel of the same name. Featuring PXL vision, video, and super 8, the film assaulted audiences. Praised and reviled, it more importantly proved that Verow was an original voice that could not be ignored.

In 1997, Verow shifted creative gears. It was while searching for a more intimate film language with his new improvisational acting troupe that he happened to experiment with digital video technology. This led to the award winning films of his Addiction Trilogy; Little Shots of Happiness (Berlin 97, SXSW 97, Mill Valley ’97), Shucking the Curve (SF IndieFest 99, No Dance ’99.) and The Trouble with Perpetual… read more

Bruce LaBruce

Bruce LaBruce is a writer, film-maker, and photographer stuck in the gulag otherwise known as Toronto, Canada. He started out as a child, then quickly moved on to the production of homo punk fanzines (J.D.s [with G.B. Jones], Dumb Bitch Deserves To Die [with Candy Parker]) and super 8 movies (Boy/Girl, I Know What It’s Like To Be Dead, Bruce and Pepper Wayne Gacy’s Home Movies [with Candy Parker], Slam!). These products helped to launch the so-called Homocore or Queercore movement which corrupted a whole new generation of homosexuals.

In 1991 LaBruce released his first feature length film. No Skin Off My Ass – an exploration of the sordid relationship between a faggoty hairdresser (played by LaBruce himself) and a mute, handsome young skinhead – went on to become a world-wide cult hit. His follow-up feature Super 8 1/2 (1994) is a harrowing cautionary bio-pic about LaBruce’s rocky rise to cult stardom. LaBruce… read more
