Get Carter, a personal favourite, is one of the purest and most raw crime films ever made, along with Boorman’s “Point Blank”, Melville’s “le Samourai”, Friedkin’s “French Connection”, and Peckinpah’s “the Getaway,” among others. Not large works like “the Godfather, 1 & 2”, “Chinatown”, “Once Upon a Time in America”, “Goodfellas”, “Casino”, “Gangs of New York”, etc. but leaner and just as mean and with loners at the lead … real pros. Cool, sadistic, and stylish works all.
