Can't NOT like it, obviously !
it's a gangster movie? It's a western? It's a samurai film? All of this stuff, and still a Jarmusch's work. A unique piece of filmmaking, where the rhythm is given by short quotes from Hagakure and the fresh soundtrack produced by an inspired RZA...poetic film, you can't fuck with this
One of my favourite films of all time. Part samurai film, part iconic gangster flick and part western, it takes its cues from the likes of Kurosawa, Melville and Scorsese and turns the material into something entirely fresh and unique. Full of distinctive humor with a keen eye for the absurd, shot with remarkable style and flair and featuring a killer soundtrack by RZA, Ghost Dog is a poetic gangster masterpiece.
I love this film, however at the same time I think it's not as good as some other works by Jarmusch.
Interesting but uneven effort from Jim Jarmusch. It can be slow and plodding at times, but a number of inspired scenes and clever touches keep it compelling for fans of Jarmusch's offbeat style, though it doesn't rank among his best.
i am definitely willing to see this, despite my relative disinterest in Jim Jarmusch. Le Samourai is one of my favorite movies ever, and there have been a few people whose opinions i would trust who said this was good.
The film is as on point and precise as its main character, Ghost Dog. The scenes with Ghost Dog and his best friend the French-speaking ice cream man played by Jarmusch favorite, Isaac De Bankolé are a great break in the action, but only for a spell as the action inevitably ensues throughout. The soundtrack is icy cool. I can't help but feel this is one of Jarmusch's most fully realized works.
