Nicholas Cage.. need i say anymore? whats happened to him. Has his acting skills suddenly been drained from within? with a terrible script and a unfaithful adaption it fails on almost every level.
I thought this’d be a good match for my tastes towards the gaudy and the over-the-top, in the same way Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever was. But no, it’s just dumb more than anything. The aesthetic overloads (sitting somewhere between the frenzy of Oliver Stone’s MTV phase and the gratuity of Zack Snyder’s, er, entire career) are enjoyable in the most shallow way, with the rest of the film following suit, most annoyingly in its patently brainless framing of the Marvel mythology. And most disappointingly, Cage is never fully let off his leash, despite the obvious potential just screaming to be realised.
Was a fan of the comic books as a kid so was very disappointed by this in 07 to sat the least. Cheesy in idea and execution with so many wasted opportunities. Hard to say what's worse; Fonda's 'far out' line or Cage's 'Tom Joadesque' soliquay at the end. Nice effect with the building ride but otherwise pretty much worthless.
Beginning was hilariously bad, in a good way. The second half unfortunately didn't entertain me nearly as much, despite using the same bad clichés,
It looks like a Hot Wheels bad commercial, directed by a stupid kid who just discovered Judas Priest two weeks ago.
It is not a good movie and the ending is pretty bad and boring, but I love it. It's even one of my favorite B movie. I got to write a review for it one of these days!
How many Hollywood producers has Eva Mendes blown in her "career"? T'is the question.
