Jagger comes off as such a naive wanker in this.

This is a doc about a band touring and responding to media involvement around an horrendous incident. Really raw. If you look at it as a pure concert film, you'll be disappointed.

Whether this is "the greatest rock film ever made" depends on how you look at it. As a testament to the Stones audacity and stupidity it is excellent. What fools would hire the Hell's Angels to be their security guards? The Maysles do a great job of capturing the atmosphere surrounding this infamous concert, but as far as music goes it is hit and miss.

I adore this film, but I only wish the Flying Burrito Brother's performance had been filmed better. You can hardly see the band, and footage of Gram Parsons is so hard to find anyway.

You can see how the Stones cultivated the image of Rock and Roll's "bad boys" in this documentary. The ill-fated concert captured them in probably their worst hour. It is fascinating to watch how a seemingly innocent concert can go so incredibly wrong.

Great film. I also attended the Q&A. Maysles offered some considerable insights and came off as a warm, interesting individual. Looking forward to a more extensive Q&A tomorrow.

Saw a screening of Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens this evening. Albert Maysles was on hand for a Q&A in between and I asked him how he felt about postmodern documentary filmmaking, a la Errol Morris. All he said was that he respected all styles except for Michael Moore's. Didn't really answer my question, but he's a brilliant filmmaker nonetheless.

I thought the filming of it was really well done. The film had a good some of darkness, and the stones' shock showed how young they all were, as they seemed pretty immature about it all. This film did capture the cultural storm of Altamonte very well.

Falar o que da minha banda favorita? Ok, bom documentário. Bom o caraleo, ótimo! Mick Jagger como sempre, um frontman.

Good documentary, though it would have been cooler if the Rolling Stones were replaced by King Crimson.

Mick Jagger remains endearingly stoned throughout. 99 percent of the audience remains horrifically, dementedly stoned throughout. Good balance? No, but a great movie.

Dreary film that captures the essence of the time gone. As though the hippie period should have been a moment of hope, it appears now and is described by the Maysles Brothers, even if in 1970 they were unaware of this representation, as a moment of decadence in American history. The morning after Altamont is one of the most poignant scenes I know. Masterpiece. A DVD zone your library.

Somehow, this movie manages to capture hippie apocalypse for their posterity. Everyone acknowledges that. Yet it also captures Mick Jagger's douchebaggery, am I the only one who own up to this?

Quite an important film in regards to its rare capturing of that transitional moment where the peace-toting 60s came to an end, and where the decadent and turbelent 70s kicked in...

I love the Gram Parsons performance - although I wish I could see the whole set. Maysles have a wonderful style.
