Adam Leon's feature debut is a likable slice of life with two great, naturalistic performances from Hickson and Washington. The plot meanders but in an organic, amusing way as Leon introduces the viewer to a cast of colorful supporting characters. Petty theft has rarely been so charming. Good first effort; interested to see what Leon does next.
Solid, feel good gangster flick. http://theframeloop.com/2013/04/16/film-review-gimme-the-loot-adam-leon/
The cutest Bronx Side Story ever... http://www.tessmag.com/2012/12/11/gimme-the-loot-adam-leon-review/
Solid first film from Adam Leon. Strong moments that ring true are abundant but the film runs out of steam toward the end. Tashiana Washington carries the movie and hopefully this will be her breakout role.
Sympathique et bien joué mais je m'attendais soit à "plus positif", quitte à sortir d'un contexte réaliste (un peu à la Gondry) ou à quelque chose de bien plus négatif et critique qu'un simple racket et une petite arnaque au portable. Cependant l'aspect jungle urbaine New Yorkaise est assez joliment retranscrit.
Gimme the Loot is a charmer. So much slapstick, so much energy and fun. I had the good fortune to hang out with Hickson the day it premiered at Cannes. He said he was out skating in NYC and Leon randomly approached him with an offer to act in his films. Totally down to earth guy, totally down to earth story, totally down to earth film.
