A film for all times. http://cinemauprising.blogspot.com/2012/04/glengarry-glen-ross-20-years-of-fuck.html
Jack Lemmon is monumental in this film, and Al Pacino is fucking hilarious. The dialogues are so awesomely written.
Blake: We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize? [Holds up prize] Blake: Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired.
this is one of the few movies where David Mamet's wordiness isn't a hinderance, merely because the actors involved know how to deliver their lines like they are in a movie rather than a play. plus William H Macy isn't in it, and he reads his lines like he's reading his lines.
"Is that what I did, Dave? I humiliated you? Oh my God, I'm sorry." Every line, every execution, is fucking perfect. Who cares about Graf Orlock? Just make a band that samples this movie alone and you're set for life.
I can't even to describe my immediate love for this movie. The only other Mamet-written film I'd seen, Homicide, was hard-hitting enough, but Glengarry blew the doors right off. Every single actor (especially Spacey, Lemmon, and Pacino) is spectacular in their own right, all of them playing well to their strengths. And James Foley's camera work and scene set-up perfectly accentuates Mamet's Pulitzer-winning writing.
A great cast doing absolutely amazing work with a fantastic script, and a director that is content to just let them do so with minimal interference. Feels like a play, but for once, not in a negative sense. Captures the desperation of these mens lives perfectly.
Perhaps the greatest film ever made. Almost too painful to watch...but not quite so you cannot take your eyes off it. A masterpiece...plain and simple.
How could the man who foisted the abomination Madonna star vehicle known as "Who's That Girl?" on the American public have directed this? This is an actor's movie all the way...much like James Foley's 1986 "At Close Range" (on that one, he only let Madonna sing the theme song, which is where she belongs: on the soundtrack). Watch for the performances alone. It's top-notch work only from all of the actors involved.
the acting was good but i felt like the movie was over before it even started. didn't really capture my attention that much.
I wish their could be a Glengarry Glen Rossish movie ever year.Fast paced and extremly well handled by these amazing actors. From Al Pacino all the way down to Johnathan Pryce. I've seen this moving a couple times this month and I loved each scene equally. David Mamet is a pure genius and he deserved an oscar for best adapted screenplay. It's weird how movies get better over time.
Perfect script. Perfect performances across the board. I crave this film the way I crave caffeine. "Fuck you! That's my name!"
Just..wow... i didn't think it possible to get all these actors in one movie.
