Dean DeBlois (born June 7, 1970) is a Canadian film director, screenwriter and animator. He is best known for co-writing and co-directing the Disney animated film Lilo & Stitch, and Dreamworks animated film How to Train Your Dragon and directing the Sigur Rós documentary/film Heima. His other credits include Mulan and the forthcoming The Banshee and Fin Magee, as well as the 1980s Canadian animated series The Raccoons.
DeBlois started his career at Hinton Animation Studios and worked as animator on The Raccoons and The Teddy Bears’ Picnic. He then joined Don Bluth’s Sullivan Bluth Studios in Ireland and worked on Thumbelina and A Troll in Central Park. He also co-wrote the movie Mulan for Disney. Jónsi's twinkling music and sweetly mournful voice are wonderful -- of course -- but as a "film", this leaves you wanting. The cute premise described in the synopsis is not really there; it's merely a collection of beautifully photographed acoustic performances by Jónsi. The tiniest hint of an actual narrative would have made this much more powerful and cohesive.
